What an Adventure!

We started off our day by telling the kids we were going on an adventure and they better hurry up and get ready before Captain Hook came and stole all of our treasure.

Sidenote: We had just gotten a Valentine's Day card in the mail from my Grandparents and they had each recieved $$$. I told Tristan that we better hide his treasure so Captain Hook doesn't find it, and he got all excited about it and we put his money in his piggy bank (which just so happens to be a skull...so fitting). That was the start of our theme...plus our kids are such a pain when we're trying to get out the door. Motivation, bribery, trickery...call it what you want to call it, but I call it success.

Ps. They've been really into Jake & the Neverland Pirates (Disney Jr's new show)...can you tell?

We drove out to Cashmere for the day to spend some time with Eric's family; cousins he hadn't seen in 5-12 years and others we only see once a year. If you haven't been to Cashmere, you should. It's just outside Wenatchee and pretty much the cutest little town. Whenever we head over the mountains for Family Camp (Eric's side family reunion ever year) we always drive through Cashmere because it's so cute. And Eric's mom lived out there for awhile and sometimes we try to figure out which house was hers and never can. I'm pretty sure we always daydream of moving out there...until I point out that there's no IKEA within a reasonable distance...

We waited to leave till bedtime in hopes that the kids would fall asleep on the way home. In theory this was a good idea. We didn't think about the weather...sooo yikes. We got a little nervous going over Blewett, but nothing was sticking yet so we were okay... just had to drive with our brights on so we could see through the snow. We stopped at a McDonald's on the way home for some coffee (couldn't find a Starbucks...) and considered staying at the hotel next to it. I mean, we REALLY considered it. We decided not to because we didn't have swimsuits so we wouldn't be able to go swimming. When we got to Snoqualmie, we were wishing we had just decided to skinny dip. The Pass required chains, and in our little Honda we were a little nervous and unprepared for the snow. There is ONE hotel up there. Seriously? Kinda silly if you ask me. So we had no choice but to put the chains on and cross over.

Here's the kicker. Neither of us have ever put chains on before.

Alright, have a good laugh. Get it all out.

Once we figured out how to put the chains on, the other one took about 5 minutes. HA!
We did eventually make it home safe and sound, but there were a few moments I thought we might end up sleeping in the car. Our bed never seemed so comfy!!

In the midst of getting in and out of the car trying to reheat our hands, Eric was getting grumpy. He says to me (shaking his head and all) "We're stuck in the snow and my hands are about to fall off and you're taking pictures!"

Haha, it's true. Even amongst madness, you can count on me to take a few pictures ;)
